Closing Kids Dentist of Lawrence – Effective July 15, 2020

Hello Visitor, Parent or Guardian,

After much consideration, I have decided to close Kids Dentist of Lawrence (“KDOL”) effective July 15, 2020. While I am downhearted at the fact that KDOL will no longer continue to provide for the pediatric dental needs of the community, I am grateful for the trust you showed in the practice and our dental professionals and staff.

Patients With Appointments Already Scheduled – CANCELED
If your child has an appointment that is currently scheduled, please be aware that this appointment has been canceled. You do not need to contact the office to cancel the appointment; it has been automatically done for you and your child. Due to the recent COVID-19 pandemic, we are limited to only treating emergency and urgent dental care needs until the date the office is closed.

Patients With Appointments Already Scheduled at Lawrence Memorial Hospital – NOT CANCELED
If a patient currently has treatment scheduled at Lawrence Memorial Hospital for hospital-based intervention, a team member will reach out directly to confirm this appointment, if they have not done so already.

Patients With Remaining Treatment Needs Without An Appointment
If your child has remaining treatment needs, we will make every effort to provide you and your child with a referral to another dental office to receive treatment (see list of referring dentists below). Please reach out to our office directly if you think your child has non-urgent dental needs and you are seeking a referral to another office. Please contact our office before the date of office closure.

Continuation of Care and Transition to a New Dentist
Below is a list of dentists and/or dental offices that are qualified to provide for your child’s oral healthcare needs:

Release and Transfer of Dental Records

Additionally, a copy of the form can be downloaded at www.KidsDentistLawrence.com/release. Please note that this form needs to be received in the office prior to the date of closure.

Thank you for the trust you have shown in me and all of the dental professionals and staff that helped make KDOL a reality over the past several years. Should you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact the KDOL office through July 15, 2020.

Services We Offer

Regular Check-ups

Beginning at one year old or within 6 months of the first tooth erupting, children need to see a dentist for regular checkups every 6 months. Kids Dentist of Lawrence can pre-schedule their next appointment the same day as their check-up.

Teeth Cleaning

The staff and doctors at Kids Dentist of Lawrence provide your child with gentle, safe, and state-of-the-art care, establishing a long lasting relationship with your child by the age of one. We offer preventative services at each appointment, including teeth cleanings, hygiene instructions, and as needed, x-rays. We’ll help teach your child to prevent cavities by learning the proper brushing and flossing techniques.

Sealants

Through advances in dental science, dental professionals determined that most tooth decay in kids and teens occurred due to food particles trapped in the grooves and pits of the molars. We prevent this decay by applying a sealant made of resin material to keep food away from these areas. We continually check on the sealant and reapply if needed.

Crowns

For teeth with too many areas of decay, a filling may not suffice and a crown will need to be applied. We use crowns to restore a tooth’s structure, removing some of the soft tissue to stop infection.

Space Maintenance

As your child’s teeth, jaw, and gums develop, incoming adult teeth can crowd remaining primary teeth. On the other hand, gaps can also form between teeth. Kids Dentist of Lawrence monitors your child’s spacing, placing space maintainers in as needed. Fixed space maintainers are cemented in place and held to one or multiple teeth. There are also removable space maintainers that can be adjusted or taken out as your child’s permanent teeth grow in.

Nitrous Oxide

We sometimes give children nitrous oxide, commonly known as “laughing gas”, to relax them before and during a treatment. A breathing mask is placed over the child’s nose, keeping them calm while they stay awake. This safe, effective technique allows the dentist to easily complete dental treatments. The substance is quickly eliminated from the body after the treatment is complete. For more intense anxiety, we can also use moderate hospital sedation, in which the child stays awake, but will not remember the procedure.

General Anesthesia

General anesthesia is used in very young children and children with special needs who are very apprehensive about dental procedures. This type of sedation will allow your child to sleep through the procedure and is performed in an outpatient setting. The benefits far outweigh the minor risks and prevent injury and/or emotional trauma during the appointment.

Emergency Dental Care

Kids Dentist of Lawrence provides emergency dental care for children of all ages. This includes (but is not limited to) tooth, gum, and jaw repairs after an accident, treating severe infections, saving teeth that have been knocked out, repairing chipped teeth, and treating jaw fractures. Call our office immediately if any of these occur, and seek the care of paramedics when necessary.
